Forms of Assistance Available:

  • Food vouchers to be redeemed at a participating grocery store
  • Transportation assistance in the form of gasoline vouchers to be redeemed at a participating gas station or bus passes through Ben Franklin Transit
  • Rental assistance/Deposit assistance
  • Application fees for housing/Background checks for housing or pre-employment screening
  • Up to 1 week of motel voucher assistance for homeless vets
  • Utility assistance
  • Burial assistance for a deceased veteran, spouse, or dependent. Up to $1,000 in assistance is available in addition to the annual maximum below.
  • Necessary safety equipment required by employer to gain employment
  • Childcare assistance
  • Dental assistance – Up to $2,000 in assistance may be provided once in a lifetime in addition to the annual maximum below
  • Other emergency requests will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis

Applicants may receive the maximum annual allotment of assistance at any time within a 12 month period. Maximums for 2019 are $1,200 for an applicant with no dependents and $1,500 for an applicant with one dependent. An additional $200 may be received annually for each additional dependent residing in the applicant’s household. In cases of extreme hardship, the annual maximum may be waived at the discretion of the Veteran Advisory Board.
