Olympia: The Washington State Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA) mourns the passing of WWII veteran Doris Ruth Gross.
“We were truly blessed to have Doris be a part of the WDVA volunteer family for so many years,” said Alfie Alvarado-Ramos, director of the WDVA. “Doris served our country during World War II, followed by many years of serving the veterans of Washington State. We were honored to serve her in her final days at the Washington Veterans Home in Retsil.”
Gross was the last WWII veteran who served on the Washington State WWII Memorial Committee responsible for the WWII Memorial on the State Capitol campus. She also served on the Governor’s Veterans Affairs Advisory Committee and was a founding member of the Veterans Legislative Coalition.
Gross will be interred with honors tomorrow at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent.
