WSMTRC Background

The WSMTRC was established in Governor Inslee’s first executive order, EO 13-01 on veteran transition support to formally bring together partners across Washington State to collaborate on military transition support, Initially, workgroups were formed around the four tracks in the Veterans Opportunity to Work (VOW) Act sponsored by Washington’s Senator Patty Murray:

  • Employment
  • Career & Technical Training
  • Higher Education
  • Entrepreneurship

A detailed history of activities leading up to creation of the WSMTRC and early initiatives may be found here.

In 2017, the WSMTRC Executive Council adopted a formal strategic planning process, and endorsed three strategic priorities to guide collaborative efforts across partner organizations:

  • Establish American Job Center at JBLM.
  • Engage Military Leadership & Retention Counselors.
  • Promote and Support Veteran Entrepreneurs.
