75th Commemoration of the End of World War II

Visit Maryhill Museum of Art for information on how to participate: https://www.maryhillmuseum.org/wwiitribute

More than 16 million American men and women served in the U.S. Armed Forces during World War II. One person in uniform out of every thirty-nine died while serving. The total was 407,316. The Klickitat County War Memorial contains the names of 51 Klickitat County men who died in WW II.

Klickitat County will have a celebration of remembrance 15 August 2020, starting at 10:00 a.m., to recognize 75 years since the end of hostilities. The commemoration will start at the Klickitat County War Memorial which is 12 miles south of Goldendale in the vicinity of Stonehenge, the country’s first World War I Memorial. Follow-on activities will be on the grounds of Maryhill Museum. The public is invited to all activities.

The few Klickitat County living veterans will be especially honored. We will express our appreciation for their service while we still can. Included in the program will be stories of the WW II experiences of four county men.
