SAVE THE DATE – MAY 18th – HONOR FLIGHT FUNDRAISER
Ephrata’s American Legion and Auxiliary invites everyone to participate in an opportunity to help raise funds to benefit our veterans while enjoying a Nacho/Taco Feed, and Dessert Auction on May 18th, Armed Forces Day. It’s a great day to have fun while raising funds that will help our World War II, Korean War, Vietnam War, and disabled Veterans of all eras travel to Washington DC to see the memorials built in their honor.
Honor Flight was started to recognize U.S. Military Veterans of World War II by flying them back to see the WWII Memorial built in their honor in Washington D.C.; then Korean War Veterans were added to the veterans being honored along with veterans of other eras whose health warranted them going before their era of service. Now, as stated in text of Inland Northwest Honor Flight’s Mission. “While Honor Flight appreciates all those who serve in the military, the national organization has established the dates of service the organization recognizes as applicable to each conflict. WWII: Dec 7, 1941-Dec 31, 1946 Korean War: June 25, 1950-Jan 31, 1955 Vietnam War: Feb 28, 1961-May 7, 1975 Lebanon/Grenada Aug 24, 1982-July 31, 1984 Panama: Dec 20, 1989-Jan 31, 1990 Anyone (male or female) serving on active duty ANYWHERE at ANYTIME during the above dates is considered a veteran of the war/conflict era.”
The funds we raise through our annual event benefits Inland Northwest Honor Flight but we give it though Justin Peterson. Justin started raising funds for Honor Flight when he was just 9 years old; now he’s 19, graduated with both his High School and Associates Degree working hard to earn his Electrical Apprenticeship – plus still doing what he can for veterans. His first fund raiser was a Nacho Feed and Dessert Auction; so, we keep that tradition.
Serving of the Taco/Nacho Feed will be from 5-7pm. Some great desserts will be available for purchase through auctions held all during the evening. An Honor Flight Video will be shown; but we’d also like to take this opportunity for our local veterans to share their experiences. So, we’re asking veterans from our local area to come, share their pictures and, maybe, give a short talk. The speaking would happen at various times (like the dessert auctions) so people in attendance will be able to listen to veterans stories and also have opportunity for visiting. Even though the buffet will stop approximately 7pm, we expect people to remain for more of the speakers and dessert auctions.
Art Semro Post and Unit 28 hope for a large participation in this year’s annual Nacho/Taco Feed, and Dessert Auction. Please come on out, join us May 18th for a fun-filled and rewarding day.
Please contact Mike or Jane Montaney, 754-4889, if you have any questions and/or are a veteran willing to share your Honor Flight experience.
