Washington Veterans Home Background:  The Washington Veterans Home was built in 1910 in Port Orchard and is located on a 31- acre bluff overlooking the Sinclair Inlet of Puget Sound.

Today the Veterans Home is a state-of-the-art, non-institutional facility providing a "Resident Centered Care" concept that focuses resources around the individual resident. All primary services for a resident are available within a forty-bed "neighborhood." The Home serves 240 residents needing skilled-nursing care.

Admission Requirements for Residents: We accept Medicare, Medicaid, 3rd Party Insurance and Private Pay.  Veterans rated 70%-100% Service Connected Disabled, or whose service connected disability is the reason nursing care is needed, may have their nursing home care paid by the Federal VA.  Washington State law requires all State Veterans Home applicants to apply for all federal and state benefits for which they may be eligible, this includes Medicare Part B and Medicaid - https://app.leg.wa.gov/rcw/default.aspx?cite=72.36.030.  Medicare Part B pays for non-nursing care such as labs and x-rays and other services provided outside the nursing care facility.  Medicare rehabilitative services, for veterans with a qualifying hospital stay, are provided by highly trained staff, helping Veterans gain as much independence as possible before returning home.

State Veterans Homes also offer patriotic and recreational events throughout the year, making a State Veterans Home a great place to call home for Veterans and their families.
