Benefits Available to Service Connected Disabled Veterans - 0%-100%

  • Department of Defense Commissary/Exchange and MWR online privileges. (DOD Base access is granted only with an approved DOD ID or VA Healthcare ID showing Service Connected).
  • Free VA Medical ID Card (Once service connected it will say under picture)
  • Veterans Affairs Life Insurance (VALife) - Maximum of 40,000 coverage
  • Clothing allowances for veterans who use or wear a prosthetic or orthopedic appliance(artificial limb, braces, or wheelchair) or use prescribed medications for skin conditions,which tend to wear, tear or soil clothing.
  • 10-point Civil Service Preference (10 points added to Civil Service test score).
  • Temporary Total Evaluation (100%) based on hospitalization for a service connected disability in excess of 21 days; or surgical treatment for a service connected disability necessitating at least 1 month of convalescence or immobilization by cast, without surgery of more major joints.
  • Certification of Eligibility for home loan guaranty.
  • Free National Park Access through U. S. Fish and Wildlife-Access Pass may be obtained two ways. At a federal recreation site where entrance or standard amenity fees are charged, or through the mail. Provide a copy of your VA Disability Rating combined rating page with application.

10% In addition to the above:

  • Veteran Readiness and Employment (formerly known as Vocational Rehabilitation and Counseling under title 38 USC Chapter 31)
  • Home loan guaranty fee exemption.
  • Eye glasses and hearing aids available with any compensable service-connected disability.

30% In addition to the above:

  • Additional allowances for dependent(s) [spouse, child(ren), step child(ren), helpless child(ren), full-time students between the ages of 18-23, and parent(s)].
  • Additional allowances for a spouse who is a patient in a nursing home or helpless or blind or so nearly helpless or blind as to require the aid and attendance of another person.
  • Washington State Parks lifetime pass. [Provide a copy of VA award letter or letter of certification on letterhead stationery from the Veteran Administration or the Department of Veterans Affairs].
  • Washington State resident and non-resident reduced fishing/hunting license. [Provide a copy of your VA Disability Rating combined rating page with application].

40% In addition to the above:

  • Automobile grant and/or special adaptive equipment for an automobile provided there is loss or permanent loss of use of one or both hands, loss or permanent loss of one or both feet or permanent impaired vision of both eyes with central visual acuity of 20/200 or less in better eye.
  • Special adaptive equipment may also be applied for if there is ankylosis of one or both knees or one or both hips.
  • Washington State Regional Reduced Fare Permit (RRFP). The RRFP entitles permit holders to reduced fares. Each transit agency sets its own reduced fare structure.[Metro Transit, Community Transit, Everett Transit, Pierce Transit, Intercity Transit,Jefferson Transit, Skagit Transit, Kitsap Transit, Sound Transit, Mason Transit,Washington State Ferries, King County Water Taxi, South Lake Union Streetcar}Disability RRFPS are issued in person only. Present a copy of your VA Disability letter with application.

50% In addition to the above:

  • VA Medical outpatient treatment for any condition except dental.
  • Preventative health care services.
  • Hospital care and medical services in non-VA facilities under an authorized fee basis agreement.

60% In addition to the above:

  • Potential increased compensation (100%) based on Individual Employability. (applies to veterans who are unable to obtain or maintain substantially gainful employment due to service connected disability) Basic eligibility requirement in the case of only one service-connected disability, it must be rated at 60% or more; in the case of two or more service connected disabilities, there shall be at least one rated at 40% or more and sufficient additional disability combining to 70% or more.

70% In addition to the above:

  • State Veterans Homes nursing care at no cost. The Federal VA will pay the full cost of nursing home care, meaning veterans may keep all of their VA, military, and personal retirement income. The same is true for veterans whose service connected disability is the primary reason they require nursing home care, regardless of disability percentage.

80% In addition to the above:

  • Washington State Property Tax Relief or Exemption - Income based property tax exemptions and deferrals may be available to seniors, those retired due to disability and veterans compensated at the 80% service connected rate. Contact your County Assessor for more information.

100% In addition to the above:

  • Dental Treatment at a VA Medical Center
  • Veteran’s federal employment preference for spouse.
  • Emergency treatment in non-VA facilities: if VA facilities are not available.
  • Waiver of National Service Life Insurance premiums.
  • Free Washington State Disabled Veteran’s license plates. [A copy of your Federal VA rating letter must be mailed to the Department of Licensing along with your license plate application].
  • Washington State military children college education program. The State Legislature requires state community colleges, technical colleges, colleges and universities to waive all undergraduate tuition and fees for eligible dependents of eligible veterans up to 250 quarter credits or equivalent semester credits. Eligible veteran is the same as defined in the tuition waiver law, RCW 28B.15.621.
  • Specially Adapted Housing for veterans who have loss or permanent loss of use of both lower extremities, or the loss or blindness in both eyes having light perception only plus loss or permanent loss of one lower extremity, or the loss or permanent loss of use of one lower extremity with loss or permanent loss of use of one upper extremity, or the loss or permanent loss of use of one extremity together with an organic disease which affects the function of balance and propulsion as to preclude locomotion without the aid of braces, crutches, canes or wheelchair.
  • Special Home Adaption Grant (for veterans who don’t qualify for Specially Adapted Housing) may be applied for it if the veteran is permanently and totally disabled due to blindness in both eyes with visual acuity or 5/200 or less, or loss of or permanent loss of both hands.

100% (Permanent and Total) in addition to the above:

  • Civilian Health and Medical Program for dependents and survivors (CHAMPVA).
  • Survivors and dependents education assistance under title 38 USC Chapter 35.
  • Special Monthly Compensation: Veteran must be rated for Special Compensation due to the loss of limbs, eyesight. Aid and Attendance, housebound, or two separate medical conditions that are rated 60% each or 100% each.
