If you didn’t attend the Washington State Veterans Employee Resource Group (VERG)’s hiring event in March, you missed out on something great! This event was specifically aimed at providing transitioning military members, Veterans, and their families an exclusive opportunity to explore over 30 Washington State agencies and the positions they offer.
This was a unique event as it was specifically designed for Washington State agencies. The VERG wanted to help share the many benefits of entering state service in a venue that catered exclusively to this type of work. We understand the value of selfless service and recognize that many Veterans share the desire to serve after completing their service to this nation. Therefore, we put together an opportunity to share the many ways that Washington State Government could help our military community continue to serve.
Those who attended the event were able to speak one-on-one with department recruiters and learn about opportunities that exist in Washington State Government. They also were able to participate in several speaking engagements and panel discussions such as: Hiring Our Heroes, Law Enforcement, Service2Service, and a Mock Promotion Board/State Interview. Lastly, attendees were afforded an opportunity to receive a free professional headshot from Portraits for Patriots, which could be used for online profiles such as LinkedIn or Handshake.
The VERG is passionate about our military community, and Washington State Government. As Veterans ourselves, we fully understand the challenges of transitioning from military service to the civilian workforce. The VERG exists to help integrate the experiences, values, and knowledge of Veterans, service members, and spouses in state employment. We will continue to support our Veteran community in any way we can and have already started planning next year’s hiring event. We hope to see you there!
