Directors Message - New Suicide Prevention License Plate Emblem

I was so proud to join with Governor Inslee, Representative Orwall, Dept. of Licensing Director Teresa Berntsen, and other leaders in Washington State on November 29 to unveil our state’s new suicide prevention license plate emblem!  Their collaborative efforts, along with significant contributions from members of the Governor’s Challenge Team, made the day possible!  (If you missed the ceremony, you can check it out here: Suicide Prevention License Plate Emblem Unveiling - TVW)

I want to also recognize Jason Jarmon, a Veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom and program manager for Merging Vets & Players.  Jason shared his own story of how the crisis lifeline helped to save his life.  Jason’s words touched every member of the audience and helped make the connection between the work our Suicide Prevention Team and Partners are doing and its impact on Veterans’ lives.

The license plate emblem will help deliver the message that There is Hope across our entire state.  I know this message, along with the 988 Crisis Lifeline number will save lives and connect people to needed resources.  I am grateful to all of the partners in Washington State who share the dedication and commitment for preventing Veteran, Service Member and Family Member suicides.

Creating awareness of the many resources and crisis available is one way we can prevent tragedies from occurring.  As our Suicide Prevention Team actively engages with local Veteran Service Organization posts and chapters, community providers, medical professionals, and others across the state, they will ensure communities have access to resources to help their Veterans, Service Members, and Families.

I ask you to join with us in spreading the word.  You can pre-order your Suicide Prevention License Plate Emblem by sending a check/money order for the $18 to Department of Licensing

Emblems are in the production phase and should hit the streets in early 2023.  Once they are distributed to vehicle registration and titling offices across the state, anyone can purchase them as they renew their tabs.  We will be sure to let you know when they’re available at these locations statewide.
