Derek Foster

Derek Foster is the Suicide Prevention Grant Specialist. Derek enlisted in the Marine Corps and reached the rank of Corporal. Upon leaving the Marines, he attended the University of Texas at Dallas where he received his BA in Psychology. After the attacks of September 11th, he decided to forgo his advanced educational goals and joined the Army where he was commissioned as a logistics officer. During his Army career he twice deployed to Iraq from 2004-2005 and 2006-2008, to Kuwait from 2009-2010, and to Afghanistan from 2011-2012. Upon returning from his last deployment, he decided to change course and serve the military in a more diplomatic role and became a Foreign Area Officer where he was stationed in El Salvador. While acting as an FAO he received his MA in National Security Studies from the Naval Postgraduate School and retired from the Army in 2017 after 21 years of military service. Derek is a lover of movies and nature and spends his free time hiking, camping, and SCUBA diving. He has been married for the vast majority of his adult life and has 3 grown children.
